There have been major updates for Newcastle United fans on both Benjamin Sesko and Alexander Isak.

Newcastle want to sign Sesko, though it remains to be seen if he would be arriving to play alongside Isak or replace him.

Isak has asked to leave Newcastle this summer and Liverpool are keen to sign him.

Regardless of what happens with Isak, however, Eddie Howe has been keen to add a new forward to the Newcastle United squad

Callum Wilson left the club on a free transfer, while William Osula remains untested.

With that in mind, here’s the latest Newcastle United transfer news and rumours.

Manchester United lurking in Benjamin Sesko race

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United remain in the running to sign Sesko

While the noted transfer insider did confirm that Newcastle were planning to make an offer to the player, the Red Devils are still weighing up whether to make a bid which could hijack the potential deal.

Sesko scored 21 goals in 45 games for RB Leipzig last season and has frequently been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Arsenal were reportedly very keen on his services before they signed Viktor Gyokeres.

Romano said on a video posted on YouTube: “Manchester United are still discussing Benjamin Sesko internally. It is an expensive deal, so it is not easy, but don’t forget the gentleman’s agreement I told you.

“For some clubs, indicated by Benjamin Sesko as ‘special clubs’ for him, the price of the package can be €70million to €80million fixed, €5million to €10million in add-ons. It can be an important factor.

“With Newcastle going very big and Manchester United discussing strikers and Sesko internally. Keep an eye on this story in the next week, in the next days. Newcastle will go with an important proposal, Manchester United will discuss his name again with the coach involved in the conversation.”

On Sunday evening, reports from The Daily Mail suggested that Newcastle were braced for an offer from Liverpool for Isak.

The Reds have agreed to sell Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich for a fee approaching £70million, which could open up space to make a huge bid for the Newcastle forward.

Still, according to Alex Crook of talkSPORT, there is no absolute guarantee that Liverpool will make their move.

They still need encouragement from the Newcastle side and will not just blindly bid on the player if they do not get any.

Eddie Howe confirms Newcastle United transfer latest

Newcastle lost 3-2 to Arsenal on Sunday in a pre-season game.

After the match, the Newcastle United manager was asked whether there were any updates on potential incomings this summer.

Frustratingly for supporters, Howe suggested that nothing was looking particularly close right now.

When asked for updates about incoming movement, Howe said: “Not as far as I’m aware but obviously I’m not dealing with that day-to-day.”
