Newcastle United continue to be linked with a number of players during this summer’s transfer window and there have now been updates on the likes of Anthony Elanga, Leonardo Balerdi and James Trafford.
Not for two years have Newcastle United signed a first-team player but, hopefully, all that will change soon.
Indeed, Newcastle made a bid for Elanga, though saw it rejected by Nottingham Forest.
Furthermore, Newcastle have also been linked with Balerdi as they hunt for a new defensive option.
With that in mind, here’s all you need to know on the latest Newcastle United transfer news and rumours.

Anthony Elanga wants to join Newcastle United
According to iNews, Newcastle remain in talks with Forest over a potential move for Elanga.
Talks are only part of the process of course but it’s promising to read they are still in dialogue over a deal, despite having seen their opening bid rejected.
For his part, Elanga is “understood” to be open to the move to St James’ Park.
Alexander Isak has spoken to Elanga about joining Newcastle, although that was back in 2024 when the club initially made a move to sign the Sweden international.
Elanga scored six Premier League goals last season while registering 11 assists. Only Mohamed Salah (18) and Newcastle star Jacob Murphy (12) provided more.
Leonardo Balerdi likely to make demand if he joins Newcastle United
The Chronicle claim that Newcastle’s head of recruitment Steve Nickson has looked at potentially signing Balerdi before.
However, they suggest the Argentina international would likely demand to be a starting player in Eddie Howe’s side if he were to join. Captain of Marseille, he’d arrive with some decent pedigree.
That, in turn, could spell bad news for Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles.
Newcastle are looking to sign a new central defender this summer, having failed to in 2024. They tried to sign Dean Huijsen before he left Bournemouth for Real Madrid, while their interest in Crystal Palace and England star Marc Guehi appears to have stalled.

James Trafford could sign for Newcastle United next week
The same iNews report that suggested Elanga wanted to join Newcastle adds something on their pursuit of James Trafford.
Trafford has already agreed personal terms with Newcastle, who came close to signing the Burnley goalkeeper last summer.
According to the most recent report from iNews, there’s a hope that the club could finally seal a deal for the 22-year-old “as early as next week”.
Howe is set to take a driving seat in Newcastle’s recruitment plans following the exit of Paul Mitchell. The Newcastle United manager will likely work with his nephew Andy and the aforementioned Nickson.
Trafford could well become the first signing Newcastle make this summer.
