Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz, but face stiff competition from Leeds United and Southampton among other clubs.
According to Eurosport, the Magpies are interested in signing the 22-year-old, who has 16 Championship goals to his name from 20 games,so far this season.
However, the club’s Saudi-led consortium will have to potentially stave off competition from the likes of Leeds, Sevilla, Brighton and Hove Albion, Burnley and Southampton, who have all been credited with an interest in the forward.
Brereton is out of contract in June, and although Eurosport report that he is still in talks with Rovers about a new deal, the Championship side face a battle in keeping hold of their prized asset.

The Chile international has established himself in the national side and only Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic (21) has scored more in the Championship (WhoScored).
Brereton’s goals have helped Rovers up to fifth place in the Championship table after 20 games.
But with contract uncertainty surrounding Rovers’ number 22, the Lancashire-based club run the risk of losing him for nothing in the summer, if he doesn’t put pen-to-paper on a new deal, and they opt not to cash in on him in the January transfer window.
Brereton signing would aid Wilson

Although Eurosport expect Leeds to make a ‘serious push’ for Brereton, Newcastle cannot afford to miss out on a player of Brereton’s goalscoring pedigree, at a time when he is seemingly available to be signed.
Whilst the Magpies’ talisman Callum Wilson has failed to score in his last four Premier League games, new boss Eddie Howe has little in the way of quality options, to help take the goalscoring burden of the club’s number nine.
With three goals in nine caps for Chile, Brereton’s stock is rising and Newcastle have to utilise their new-found wealth to bring the man from Stoke-on-Trent to Tyneside.
Brereton’s additional firepower could prove crucial in our bid to retain our top-flight status.
