Newcastle United in talks with Premier League star’s agent and he’s open to the move

Joao Pedro remains one to watch for Newcastle United fans during this summer’s transfer window.

Pedro is one of Newcastle United’s leading transfer targets and previously came to close to a move to St James’ Park in 2022 while still a Watford player.

Chelsea are also interested in Pedro and Geordie Boot Boys have been told the Brazilian wants to leave Brighton.

The prospect of the Blues circling is troubling for Eddie Howe. Indeed, Liam Delap joined Chelsea instead of Newcastle and the idea of that happening again is very unwelcome indeed.

Still, it seems Newcastle are the ones making a move.

Newcastle United in talks with Joao Pedro’s agents

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle are the only club in talks with Pedro’s agents right now.

The player is on holiday at the moment and is said to be waiting to see how the situation develops over the coming days.

Chelsea’s interest is again mentioned, but the report stresses that neither of the interested parties have yet made a concrete offer.

Talks, however, are going on behind the scenes.

Joao Pedro willing to make major change to join Newcastle United

Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Pedro is open to joining Newcastle this summer.

Clearly, that doesn’t mean he’s not keen on a move to Chelsea too, it’s just that joining Howe’s side would appeal to the player.

In fact, Pedro is willing to play a right-sided forward on Tyneside. Per Transfermarkt’s positional data, only four of his 215 career appearances have come while playing in that role.

Pedro and Alexander Isak could shine for Newcastle, such is the Brighton star’s versatility. The beauty of the Brazilian is that he can operate as a striker, a winger or even as a No.10, so it’s not as if he and Isak would be competing for a starting berth.
