Newcastle United fans have made it clear what they think the club should do next regarding Anthony Elanga.
After a period of frustration for the Toon Army, Newcastle United’s summer transfer window has threatened to burst into life. Newcastle have bid £45million for Anthony Elanga, but it has been rejected.
Nottingham Forest do not want to sell the 23-year-old, as they turn down an approach from the Magpies for the second summer in a row.
The ball is back in Newcastle’s court, as they ponder their next move. They can either up their offer, or target someone else. Newcastle have Elanga alternatives that are not publicly known, while Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus remain on the Magpies’ radar.

What Newcastle United fans want to happen next after Anthony Elanga bid is rejected
For many supporters, they want Eddie Howe to take his business elsewhere. While Elanga is a very talented winger, various members of the Toon Army are adamant that he is not worth more than what the club have already offered.
Following news of Forest rejecting Newcastle’s Elanga offer, fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) have implored the club to end their interest.
One fan wrote: “Elanga is a good player, but isn’t worth £50m+. Hope they are just testing the waters with that bid, and maybe forcing an agent/other club elsewhere to put pressure on for a player we really value at that price.”
Another Newcastle United supporter added: “A player is worth what the selling club wants. I personally don’t rate Elanga so I’m hoping we walk away and don’t drag this out like Guehi last summer. Hoping we have other targets that aren’t public yet.”
This member of the Toon Army commented: “I would be walking away from Elanga. £45m rejected and Forest not willing to sell! Don’t want another Guehi saga.”
A fourth Newcastle fan wrote: “£45m bid rejected for Elanga it is a good offer but with their ‘no intention to sell’ line I’d probably move on to the next on the list can’t afford to be messing around like last summer with Guehi.”
This supporter posted on X: “I like Elanga, but I wouldn’t pay more than 45mil and I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way. Great player and obviously Forest want to build on last season. Time to look abroad.”
Finally, this Toon fan summed up the situation by simply writing: “I’m not sure Elanga is worth more than 45m in my opinion anyway.”
How Anthony Elanga compares to Newcastle United’s other wingers
Newcastle must now decide whether they think Elanga is worth more than the £45million they are currently willing to pay. As it stands, it simply is not enough for Forest to sell.
The question the club must ask themselves is how much of an improvement is Elanga on what they have already got. Howe’s current options out wide were highly influential during the 2024/25 campaign, with Jacob Murphy, Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes scoring nine goals each.
| Anthony Elanga | 6 goals | 12 assists |
| Jacob Murphy | 9 goals | 14 assists |
| Anthony Gordon | 9 goals | 7 assists |
| Harvey Barnes | 9 goals | 5 assists |
In terms of creating goals, Elanga was almost as influential for Forest last season as Murphy was for Newcastle. That speaks volumes when you consider the campaign that Murphy had in black and white.
When you combine goals and assists, Elanga actually had more goal involvements than Gordon and Barnes. For reference, they cost the Magpies £45million and £39million respectively.
Given his age and Forest’s desire to retain him, it is understandable why they have rejected Newcastle’s £45million approach. Whether the Magpies increase their offer may depend on the quality and asking price of their other targets.
