Newcastle United have made their move to sign Anthony Elanga, but it has been rejected by Nottingham Forest.
A £45million offer for Elanga has been rejected by Nottingham Forest, with Newcastle United now weighing up their next move. They can either continue their pursuit and up their offer, or look elsewhere for an alternative.
If they opt for the latter, Elanga will be the second winger that the Magpies have distanced themselves from this summer. Bryan Mbeumo is too expensive, and there is a chance that Toon officials could feel the same about Elanga.

Newcastle United have unknown targets after Anthony Elanga bid is rejected
If that is the case, the Newcastle United recruitment team will have to prioritise another right winger. After all, it is vital that one arrives at St James’ Park this summer.
However, it is unclear who Newcastle could turn to. Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus are admired on Tyneside, but the club also have targets that are yet to enter the public domain.
That is according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, who has provided details on X regarding what Newcastle United could do next after their £45million offer for Elanga was turned down by Forest.
He wrote: “Newcastle have other targets not in public domain that they may move on to if they feel they are being over-quoted.”
Newcastle United could pull off transfer surprise like in 2023
It was recently reported that Newcastle are happy not all of their targets are known. That was in reference to the pursuit of a right-sided centre-back, but it would appear that the same applies to the Magpies’ search for a right winger.
That is encouraging, as Newcastle’s publicly known targets are either considered too expensive or have moved elsewhere.
While that has been cause for concern among the Toon Army, there will be a sense of calm behind the scenes at St James’ Park. That was the case in 2023 when Newcastle fans were frustrated by the club’s pursuit of Nicolo Barella.
In truth, Newcastle were working on a different signing. Away from the public eye, Newcastle agreed a deal for Sandro Tonali with AC Milan. He arrived for £55million, with news of his looming arrival coming largely out of the blue.
Newcastle United fans will hope for a similar situation, as they try to guess who the club’s unknown targets could be for the 2025 summer transfer window.
