Newcastle United already have a team to be feared in the Premier League, and Eddie Howe is trying to make it even scarier by bringing in Anthony Elanga.

The Magpies are edging closer to their first major signing since 2023, with Newcastle pushing to sign Elanga from Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle have bid £55million for Elanga, as Eddie Howe closes in on the right winger he so desperately needs. As it stands, Jacob Murphy is his only option in that position, so Elanga will add much-needed depth and competition.

Newcastle United fans know what Anthony Elanga will bring to their front three

Elanga will arrive with ambitions of being a starter at St James’ Park, where he could line up alongside Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak.

In the eyes of Newcastle United fans on X, that could give their side a terrifyingly fast front three.

“Fastest front three in the league incoming… let’s go!” wrote one Toon fan.

A second Newcastle supporter added: “I tell you what, Gordon, Isak and Elanga is a scary good and fast front three! We have Barnes to cover AG, Murphy to cover Elanga, the best midfield three, best full backs, get a worthy successor to Schar, Trafford and a versatile striker and we’ll be one hell of a team next season.”

“Gordon Isak Elanga is a frightening front three. Make no mistake,” commented this fan.

Another member of the Toon Army wrote: “The thought of a fit and refreshed Gordon/Barnes and Elanga/Murphy on either side with Isak upfront is a scary proposition for the opposing side.”

A fifth Newcastle fan added: “Imagine a front three of Gordon-Isak-Elanga running at you… What can you even do, that amount of pace feels almost illegal.”

Finally, this Newcastle United supporter wrote: “That’s one rapid counter attack, Hall and Gordon on one side, Tino and Elanga on the other. Tap in city for Isak.”

Newcastle United have experienced Anthony Elanga’s speed themselves

Newcastle United already have penetrating speed with Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak. In and out of possession, they are capable of travelling incredibly fast.

Adding Elanga will only make the Magpies’ forward line even scarier, as he has the speed to more than keep up with Gordon and Isak.

That is something that Eddie Howe’s side know all too well. During the 2023/24 season, the Magpies were stung by Elanga’s pace during a game at the City Ground.

The 23-year-old continuously got in behind the Newcastle United defence with his pace and movement, as he went on to find the net after a penetrating run in between Dan Burn and Fabian Schar. They simply could not handle Elanga’s direct speed.

Fortunately, they might not have to worry about him for much longer. If Newcastle can get a deal done, Elanga will be running with Burn and Schar rather than at them.
