Newcastle United fans on social media have expressed their disbelief that Leeds United have seen an offer rejected for Sean Longstaff.
Indeed, Newcastle rejected a bid from Leeds for Longstaff, who has just a year to go on his contract at St James’ Park.
Any money received for the 27-year-old would count as a ‘pure profit’ on the club’s balance sheet, given his status as a Newcastle United academy graduate.
Longstaff wants Newcastle to receive a transfer fee, although it seems £12million is not enough for the club.
It remains to be seen whether Leeds come back with a fresh bid for Longstaff, but fans on social media platform X are not happy about the offer being rejected.

Newcastle United fans angry after Leeds have Sean Longstaff bid rejected
There is certainly an argument to suggest Longstaff is worth more money than £12million.
He’s played 171 Premier League games throughout his career and would bring a huge amount of experience to Elland Road.
Still, the fact he’s got so little time left on his deal does put the club in a difficult position. They have very little time to sell, and the price will only dwindle if the situation drags on until January.
Online, fans weren’t happy.
Another fan said: “Can’t understand why we would turn down 12m for longstaff unless they believe they’d get £15m i think first team football would really benefit Sean.”
“That Longstaff deal is what frustrates me about Howe and Newcastle, we are terrible sellers. That’s a great deal all around. Unless we have no chance of any replacement why are we turning that money down?” was another question.
“Really have to question the club if we are rejecting £12m for Longstaff,” said another fan.
Why Newcastle United are in an impossible position with Sean Longstaff
Back in April, Eddie Howe confirmed that Longstaff was facing an uncertain future.
The Newcastle United manager admitted the player himself had to make the decision, and reports suggest he is keen on a move to Leeds.
“The control is very much in his hands as to what he wants to do for his long-term future,” he said.
“And we are certainly delighted to have him. He’s got our utmost respect – he’s been a brilliant servant to the football club. He’s still a very valued member of the squad with a big part to play.”
Newcastle have been dreadful at selling players over the years, but clearly they do not believe that £10million up-front plus a further £2million in add-ons accurately represents Longstaff’s market value.
It’s a difficult position for the club to be in. Selling would be wise, but they cannot just accept any old deal that might not be right for them just for the sake of it.
