The Marc Guehi to Newcastle United saga looks set to make a comeback in 2025.
During the 2024 summer transfer window, Newcastle United came desperately close to signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
The centre-back looked destined to arrive at St James’ Park, only for Newcastle not to agree a deal with the Eagles.
Their asking price was deemed to be too high by Paul Mitchell, as the Magpies missed out on Guehi.
Fast forward to 2025 and Newcastle are targeting a centre-back again. Not only that, but Newcastle are targeting Guehi again.
He is expected to be on the move, with Chelsea interested in Guehi too. However, there will be competition from Tyneside.

What Crystal Palace expect Newcastle United to do this summer
That is the view from Selhurst Park, as they face up to the reality of losing one of their most influential players.
Guehi’s Palace contract expires in 2026, with the defender not expected to sign an extension. Therefore, they are going to have to cash in on Guehi or risk losing him for nothing.
The former is more likely, and the Chronicle report that Crystal Palace are expecting Newcastle United to make a fresh move for Guehi this summer.
However, the Chronicle add that any offer would be smaller than what was proposed in 2024 due to the England international’s contract situation.
Newcastle offered £65million for Guehi last summer, which was not enough to bring him to Tyneside.
What Anthony Gordon said about Marc Guehi joining Newcastle United
That was a blow for the Magpies, while it will also have been met with disappointment from Anthony Gordon.
Whilst away at Euro 2024 with England, Gordon spoke to TalkSPORT about Guehi. He admitted that he would love to see his international teammate become his club teammate.
“I haven’t actually seen the Newcastle links, but it goes without saying I’d absolutely love him [Guehi] to come because he’s a top player and he’d make us a better team,” Gordon said in June 2024.
Newcastle United could now have a second chance to make Gordon’s dream come true, as Paul Mitchell prepares to bring in defensive reinforcements.
Centre-back is a priority for Newcastle, but Guehi is not the only player on their radar.
Newcastle are also interested in signing Dean Huijsen. However, Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Liverpool are favourites to sign Huijsen right now.
Other players who Newcastle could target include Illia Zabarnyi and Ousmane Diomande.
