Newcastle United are attempting to sign Anthony Elanga, but do have alternatives if a deal collapses.

The Magpies will hope that does not happen, with Newcastle close to signing Elanga from Nottingham Forest.

A deal is not far away, while Elanga wants to join Newcastle United. Eddie Howe is close to getting the winger he craves, after trying to land Elanga twice in 2024.

It could be third time lucky, and Newcastle United will hope so given how much one of their alternatives could cost.

How much Tottenham Hotspur have been told to pay for Mohammed Kudus

Newcastle have looked at Mohammed Kudus as an alternative to Elanga, but he will be very expensive to lure away from West Ham.

Tottenham Hotspur are trying to do exactly that right now, but Daniel Levy will need to dig deep into his pockets to land the Ghana international.

According to TalkSPORT, West Ham have told Tottenham Hotspur that they must offer a deal worth at least £60million to sign Kudus.

TalkSPORT add that Spurs did offer £50million, but it was rejected by the Hammers.

Mohammed Kudus’ asking price puts Newcastle United under more pressure to finalise Anthony Elanga deal

£60million is how much Nottingham Forest want for Elanga, with the Sweden international currently Howe’s top target.

West Ham’s Kudus stance puts Newcastle under pressure to finalise this deal for Elanga, as they would only have to pay the same amount of money for their alternative.

That would represent worse value for money for the Magpies, as Elanga is their priority. It would make no sense for that deal to collapse and turn to Kudus, only to be asked to fork out £60million again.

While Elanga’s asking price is high, it is the going rate for the calibre of player that Newcastle United are targeting.

Understandably, Newcastle do not want to massively overpay. However, there will come a time that they have to do what it takes to get a deal done. That will hopefully be the case with Elanga, as Toon fans wait for more positive news regarding the Magpies’ pursuit.
