Newcastle United could be forced into a decision they don’t want to make on Kieran Trippier.
Trippier was the first signing of the PIF era at Newcastle United. The defender joined at a time when the club were fighting relegation and has since gone on to form a major part of the transformation.
The 34-year-old is a legend at St James’ Park. While he may not be guaranteed a start next season, his presence in the dressing room can only be a positive thing.
Eddie Howe wants to keep Trippier at Newcastle, although it may not be that simple.

Newcastle United could listen to offers for Kieran Trippier
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle could have to look at any bid for Trippier this summer should one emerge.
AC Milan are interested in the former England international, having decided not to sign Kyle Walker on a permanent basis from Manchester City.
Trippier’s contract runs until the summer of 2026 and while the club want to keep him, PSR rules mean they have to look at bids for fringe players.
Though he remains a key figure at the club, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall are the starting options at full-back when all are fully fit.
How Kieran Trippier feels about his Newcastle United future
Trippier confirmed he wanted more game time at Newcastle when speaking to Sky Sports in April.
“It’s been a tough year,” he said.
“I’ve not played as many games as I would have liked, but that is full credit to Tino obviously.
“You’ve got to be professional, and I’ve been professional. I’ve worked hard in training, and you never know what could happen.
“I had an opportunity in the final. Every opportunity I get I try to grab it with both hands.”
| Season | Starts |
| 2021-22 | 6 |
| 2022-23 | 43 |
| 2023-24 | 35 |
| 2024-25 | 19 |
Though he did come back into the team towards the end of the season and proved brilliant in the Carabao Cup final, Trippier’s resurgence only came after Hall’s injury.
Newcastle expect Hall to be fit for pre-season, and it would be a major surprise not to see him and Livramento in the starting berths next time around.
While there would be games for Trippier next season as Howe looks to balance domestic duties with a European campaign, it’s hard to see him starting all too often.
Losing him would be a blow but if Trippier wants more game time, it looks unlikely to come at Newcastle on a regular basis.
