Newcastle United are thinking about signing Crystal Palace flop as striker search continues

Newcastle United are absolutely desperate to sign a striker but are running out of time.

Forget the Alexander Isak situation, the Magpies still need to replace Callum Wilson following his departure.

Yoane Wissa was expected to join, but that deal is no longer as certain as it once was. Newcastle’s latest Wissa offer was rejected by Brentford, who need a replacement for the 28-year-old.

After that, Newcastle have moved for Jorgen Strand Larsen. He will not be cheap, with Wolves wanting more than £60million for the 25-year-old forward.

Now another striker is on Eddie Howe’s radar, just over a week before the summer transfer window closes.

Newcastle United could turn to Alexander Sorloth

Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope has provided an interesting update on X on Newcastle United’s striker search, revealing that a third option is being considered alongside Wissa and Strand Larsen.

According to Hope, Newcastle have now ‘discussed’ the possibility of bringing Alexander Sorloth to St James’ Park.

The 29-year-old currently plays for Atletico Madrid, but could be available for a move away from the La Liga giants.

Hope adds that Wolves are not looking to sell Strand Larsen, who only joined them permanently earlier this summer.

Alexander Sorloth had a disastrous 12 months at Crystal Palace

Sorloth does have the Premier League experience that Eddie Howe craves, but that does not tell the whole story.

He joined Crystal Palace in January 2018, but had a miserable 12 months at Selhurst Park. He made 20 appearances in all competitions, scoring just one goal. In 16 Premier League outings, he did not score once.

One year after his arrival, Sorloth was loaned out to Gent for the remainder of the 2018/19 season. Upon his return, he joined Trabzonspor on loan.

That is where things started to change, as Sorloth netted 33 goals in 49 games.

He then had a forgettable spell at RB Leipzig before settling down in Spain. Sorloth has scored consistently for Real Sociedad, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, finding the net 24 times for the latter last season.

Despite being considered a flop at Crystal Palace, Sorloth has gone on to have a strong career in front of goal. Now he could be the striker that Newcastle United turn to in their time of need.
