Newcastle United’s interest in Bryan Mbeumo is no secret.
A lot of Newcastle United fans were dreaming about the idea of Bryan Mbeumo arriving at St James’ Park during the January transfer window.
In fact, Mbeumo was described as Newcastle’s dream signing midway through the season.
However, that dream is not going to become a reality due to financial reasons. Newcastle know Mbeumo will be too expensive, as PSR continues to stop Eddie Howe from enhancing his squad.
But that has not stopped the Magpies from watching him, while they also have an eye on his Brentford teammate.
Newcastle United scout Sepp van den Berg

While January signings are unlikely, the Newcastle United scouting team are hard at work identifying possible signings for future windows.
According to the Chronicle, Brentford centre-back Sepp van den Berg is on Newcastle United’s radar.
They report that Toon scouts regularly watched Van den Berg when he was a Liverpool player out on loan, while Steve Nickson recently watched Brentford’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Newcastle United missed opportunity to complete transfer coup
Van den Berg is a fresh defensive target for the Magpies, after Newcastle missed out on Abdukodir Khusanov.
Eddie Howe is aiming to sign a right-sided centre-back in the near future, and the Dutchman certainly ticks a lot of boxes. He is comfortable in possession and incredibly quick for a defender.
However, it could be argued that Newcastle have already missed their chance to land Van den Berg.
He joined Brentford from Liverpool in the summer, with the Bees paying an initial £20million.
His value will only rise the more he excels in the Premier League, having enjoyed a strong start to his Brentford career.
With PSR a major issue for Newcastle United, there may perhaps be a feeling that they should have gone for him last summer. Instead, the Magpies pursued a deal for Marc Guehi, as Eddie Howe aimed to sign someone who immediately improved his starting XI.
