Strange report links Newcastle with Aston Villa ace Tyrone Mings

Tyrone Mings is reportedly a target for Newcastle United.

But who is reporting it I hear you ask? Is it the Daily Mail? Or the Chronicle? Possibly Birmingham Live?

No, it’s Marca in Spain. The famous Spanish newspaper claim that English Premier League side Newcastle United want to sign England defender Tyrone Mings from English Premier League side Aston Villa.

So how does that work then? Why would the Spanish outlet have inside information on transfer dealings between two English clubs and an English player?

If a Spaniard was involved then fair enough, but this is definitely another rumour to put in the already huge ‘ignore’ pile.

Tyrone Mings to Newcastle rumour makes no sense

Marca add another four names that Newcastle want to sign in January – Toni Kroos, Niklas Sule, Donny van de Beek and Jesse Lingard.

They would all be wonderful signings, but I can hardly see World Cup winner Kroos making the move to the North East next year. Then again, maybe he’s bored of winning Champions Leagues and wants a real challenge…

Mings is the name that sticks out like a sore thumb in that list. The four other players belong to elite clubs in Real Madrid and Manchester United.

But if anything, Mings is the strangest name to be linked by Marca.

For reference, St James’ Park is 200 miles away from Villa Park. In contrast, the Marca head office is 1,335 miles away from SJP. Villa Park is obviously a little closer, but even still…

Will Mings make the 200 mile journey north? Absolutely not. And if he does, don’t expect to hear about it from Spain before anywhere else.
