Newcastle United want to sign Maximo Perrone, and are seemingly willing to pay more than required to get him.
The 19-year-old midfielder emerged as a target for the Magpies last week. There were claims in Argentina that the club are going to make a bid for the South American teenager.
Journalist Agustin Selio claimed that Newcastle are set to make a formal offer for the Velez Sarsfield youngster, who has been turning heads with his performances in Argentina.
Now it appears that Newcastle’s transfer pursuit is moving in the right direction according to another reporter from overseas.
Fresh report claims how much Newcastle want to pay for Maximo Perrone
Cesar Luiz Merlo has claimed on Twitter that the Magpies are currently in negotiations with Velez about signing Perrone.
He has claimed that Velez want a fee worth more than his release clause, which is £7.9million. And Newcastle are prepared to do that.
The South American journalist has stated that Newcastle are willing to pay between £11.5million and £12.3million to secure his signature.
The fact Newcastle are willing to pay over the odds suggests they rate him very highly, and they aren’t the only Premier League club that has been interested in him this year.
Man City wanted Perrone earlier in 2022
Perrone has played a lot of senior football for a man so young, and has already received a lot of interest from Europe. And perhaps non bigger than Manchester City.
The Premier League champions were linked with him in February, with ESPN claiming that Pep Guardiola’s side wanted to bring him to the Etihad after scouting the deep-lying playmaker.
However, a move did not come to fruition, and Perrone is still a Velez player. But for how much longer?
Reports in Argentina suggest that Newcastle are very keen to sign Perrone. And the fact they are willing to pay more than is required is a strong indication of their desire to get this deal done
Given his age, it would be another signing for the future. This is the kind of deal that Dan Ashworth loves – snapping up talented youngsters who can develop into stars.
We are already set to see Garang Kuol join the club in January, and it looks like there is a chance that he could be joined by Perrone.
