Newcastle United are interested in signing Gabri Veiga this summer, and are happy to pay full price to get him.
Veiga is currently a man in demand after a stellar season with Celta Vigo, and has been linked with a move to Newcastle.
Now a report from Spain claims that the Magpies are keen to activate the 20-year-old’s release clause during the summer transfer window.
Newcastle willing to pay £35m for Gabri Veiga
According to AS, Eddie Howe’s side are willing to pay Veiga’s release clause in full to bring him to St James’ Park. A fee of £35million will force Celta Vigo to accept, which would make him one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever.
He would also receive a handsome wage package, with AS adding that the club are interested in offering Veiga £4.4million-a-year. That equates to £85,000-a-week.

That is a lot of money for someone so young, but Veiga is extremely talented. That is why Newcastle are joined by so many major clubs in the race to sign him. He also has interest from Real Madrid, Manchester United and Liverpool.
Veiga is hugely talented
Newcastle are in the market for an attacking midfielder, and are heavily linked with James Maddison. It has been reported that he is intrigued by the project at St James’ Park, but there are concerns that Newcastle won’t be able to match his wage demands.
Maddison is the type of player that Newcastle are missing in midfield. He is decisive in the final third, capable of scoring and creating.
But if we can’t tempt him to Tyneside then Veiga could be a brilliant alternative. He is enjoying a fantastic season in La Liga, boasting nine goals and three assists.

The Spaniard is a wonderful finisher, and could provide the goals that Newcastle’s midfield is missing right now.
Obviously he is very young too, and has the potential to get even better. However, there would need to be an adaptation period, and it is unclear whether he would be suited to the Premier League despite thriving in La Liga.
However, he has been praised for his physical attributes, with Celta youth coach Carlos Hugo Bayón describing him as ‘very powerful and very strong‘.
But he is one to watch this summer, with reports in Spain claiming Newcastle are willing to spend £35million on him to secure his signature.
