Newcastle transfer news: Magpies want Christian Pulisic on loan

Newcastle United reportedly want to sign Christian Pulisic on loan from Chelsea next month.

That is according to 90min, who claim that the Magpies and Liverpool are eyeing a temporary move for the American winger.

Pulisic has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park since the summer, and is once again on the club’s radar heading into the January transfer window.

It was recently claimed by the Mirror that Newcastle plan to make him their next marquee arrival with a £40million deal. However, 90min don’t believe that is the case.

Instead, they reckon that Eddie Howe’s side only want the 24-year-old on loan. That would make more sense, as it has been reported that Newcastle aren’t planning to make any major signings in January.

A loan with an option to buy would suit Newcastle best, but they face competition from Liverpool. 90min believe that the Reds are also in the race for the £58million man, as they look for a replacement for the injured Luis Diaz.

Liverpool may feel they have an edge in the race to sign Pulisic on loan ahead of Newcastle, as he briefly worked with Jurgen Klopp. But both clubs could be facing disappointment very soon.

Chelsea won’t loan Christian Pulisic to a team like Newcastle

While Newcastle and Liverpool reportedly fancy landing Pulisic on loan, that apparently won’t suit Chelsea.

90min add that the Blues would rather he joined a foreign club, with owner Todd Boehly very much against loaning him out to a domestic rival.

Given the fact that Newcastle are currently nine points clear of Chelsea in the Premier League table, it would be unwise for them to send Pulisic to St James’ Park.

Therefore, it sounds unlikely that we will be seeing the USA international sign on the dotted line with Newcastle next month.

That is a real shame, as he would be a great addition to Howe’s squad. Perhaps Chelsea’s stance will soften later in the window, but right now it doesn’t look like Pulisic will be joining Newcastle in January.
