Newcastle United are reportedly about to make their opening bid to sign Ivan Fresneda.

That is according to Pucela Fichajes in Spain, who claim that the Magpies’ first bid will be submitted to Real Valladolid in the next few hours.

Eddie Howe’s side are currently in the market for a right-back, as they target someone young who can act as deputy to Kieran Trippier. Newcastle need someone who can eventually replace the England international in the future, which is why they have been targeting players with a lot of potential.

The likes of Harrison Ashby and Cody Drameh have been linked, but it looks like Fresneda is now the top target.

That is because an official bid from Newcastle is looming, and the club already have a plan to help sweeten the deal according to reports.

Newcastle bid would include Ivan Fresneda loan move

Pucela Fichajes add that Newcastle will propose that Real Valladolid keep Fresneda for the rest of the season as part of the deal, with the Magpies loaning the 18-year-old immediately back to the Spanish club.

That could suit the La Liga side, who would still benefit from having Fresneda up until the summer. It would also give them more time to find a replacement.

Newcastle have recently scouted the teenage defender, watching him up against Real Madrid last week. Fresneda performed well up against Brazilian superstar Vinicius Junior, but his side ended up losing 2-0 courtesy of a Karim Benzema brace.

However, Fresneda’s performance has clearly convinced the Magpies to make a move, and it sounds like he is the most likely candidate to become our second signing of 2023. The first was Garang Kuol, who officially joined the club on January 1st.

Fresneda could soon follow him to St James’ Park, and another report claims that a deal is actually close.

Spanish football expert Fernando Kallas has told Sky Sports News today (4/1/23) that ‘it’s fairly a done deal that he’s going to Newcastle’. The reporter added that the player has been saying his goodbyes ahead of a move.

While Pucela Fichajes are less adamant that it is almost a done deal, they believe that an opening bid is on its way. If it is accepted by Valladolid, Howe’s January wish for a young right-back could soon become a reality.
