Newcastle transfer news: Toon register interest in Alexis Mac Allister

Newcastle United have already raided Brighton twice since the takeover, and could do it again with a move for Alexis Mac Allister.

Dan Burn and Dan Ashworth both swapped the Seagulls for the Magpies in 2022, and now 2023 could see Mac Allister follow them to Newcastle.

That is because a new report claims that the club have made it be known that they would like to bring the World Cup winner to St James’ Park this summer.

Newcastle interested in Alexis Mac Allister

According to 90min, Newcastle are one of multiple Premier League clubs to register their interest in signing Mac Allister when the summer transfer window opens.

The other clubs mentioned are Tottenham and Chelsea, while 90min add that Liverpool are currently the favourites to secure his signature.

Mac Allister could be the midfielder that Newcastle are looking for, and his stock has risen massively over the past 12 months. He played an important role in Argentina winning the World Cup last year, and it could lead to him securing a big move this summer.

However, 90min add that staying in the Premier League is likely.

He could cost a club record fee

The report adds that because of the fee Brighton want for the 24-year-old, it is highly likely that he will join another club in England.

They state that the Seagulls are looking for a fee of more than £70million, which would make him Newcastle’s record signing.

That is a huge amount of money, and may force the Magpies to look elsewhere. It is expected that Newcastle will break the bank this summer, but they will certainly not overpay.

A move to St James’ Park will certainly be appealing if we qualify for the Champions League, although it appears to be Liverpool who are pushing hardest for him right now. They were recently urged to sign him by Mark Schwarzer.

For that kind of money, Newcastle will probably be happy for him to move to Anfield. That would take a significant chunk out of our budget that could be better spent elsewhere.

For example, it has been claimed that Declan Rice may only cost £10million more – and he would be a much better investment.

But with plenty of options, a large transfer kitty and the potential lure of UCL football, it is going to be a very interesting summer for Newcastle United.
