Brighton and Hove Albion’s World Cup winning midfield maestro, Alexis Mac Allister is contemplating a summer move with Newcastle United keen on signing him, but he’s now been urged to go to Liverpool.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Wednesday, former Australia goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer identified Brighton‘s Alexis Mac Allister as a good target for Liverpool to pursue off the back of them cooling their interest in Jude Bellingham.
Newcastle had recently been linked with an interest in Alexis Mac Allister in a report by 90min but with Liverpool now turning their attention elsewhere after deciding that a move for England star Jude Bellingham wasn’t financially viable, Schwarzer has said: “I think Mac Allister is a great shout.

“I think Mac Allister was unbelievable for Argentina at the World Cup. I think he would be a very, very good signing for Liverpool, if that was possible.”
The 24-year-old is riding the wave of his exploits in Qatar helping Argentina to World Cup glory and as such is attracting interest from top clubs. It’s with that in mind that there’s a belief that Mac Allister may be keen to move on from Brighton this summer despite recently signing a new contract on the South Coast.
Brighton have a pretty strong record of selling their biggest stars for a tidy profit with Marc Cucurella moving to Chelsea in the summer for around £63million, Yves Bissouma moved on to Tottenham and then in January Leandro Trossard moved to Arsenal.
The thing is, even when they sell their top talent, Brighton have always managed to unearth a new gem to fill the gap. Their recruitment team, set up by one Dan Ashworth now of Newcastle, are excellent at finding excellent players at knock-down prices.

So with Brighton likely to allow a sale, would Mac Allister fit in at Newcastle or should we be looking elsewhere?
I think Alexis Mac Allister is a quality player and at 24 he’s yet to hit his peak, but as yet there’s no fee being touted and that would have a huge bearing on whether the move would be worth it. Especially given that we’re linked to other similar players who could cost less or are even younger, or both in the case of Gabri Veiga.
I still think we should throw caution to the wind and go for Jude Bellingham ourselves.
As good as Mac Allister is, he’s not one I’d cry into my morning coffee about if we missed out on this summer, while at the same time, I’d be happy to see Newcastle sign him. I think there are other options out there that we’re looking at who’d be more exciting.
