Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Bamba Dieng, according to Sky Sports.

The Magpies are being linked with the Marseille player, who is apparently valued at £12.5 million.

The 21-year-old has made 14 appearances so far this season, and has scored four goals.

Dieng won’t be featuring for his club for the next couple of weeks at least. That’s because the player has gone to the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal.

The winger, who has been likened to his fellow countryman Sadio Mane, has also been linked with Aston Villa, West Ham United and Crystal Palace.

Newcastle have been rocked by news of another injury for Callum Wilson.

The 29-year-old hobbled off during the recent draw with Manchester United. The club are almost certain to sign a new striker this month.

Dieng is versatile enough to operate through the middle.

Information from Transfermarkt reveals he has played as a centre-forward on eight occasions so far this term.

Dieng is not the only player from Marseille to have been linked with Newcastle since the takeover went through back in October.

Defender Duje Caleta-Car and defensive midfielder Boubacar Kamara have also reportedly been on the Magpies’ radar.

Little-known entity Bamba Dieng might not be the right signing for right now for Newcastle

Dieng is clearly a player with big potential, given the early Sadio Mane comparisons.

GFFN recently penned a glowing feature about the youngster. It includes quotes from El-Hadji Diouf saying he is also like Didier Drogba.

He apparently has ‘electric pace’ and ‘illusive movement’.

Newcastle just need players they can rely on at this moment in time. Relegation to the Championship is, of course, a very real threat right now.

He’s got to be one to keep an eye on in the future though.
