Newcastle United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Mariano Diaz from Real Madrid.
The striker’s exit from the Bernabeu is looking likely this summer, with Real keen to cash in.
Los Blancos are said to be trying to raise funds to splash on Kylian Mbappe.
Jeunes Footeux have reported that Diaz has been offered to many clubs, including Newcastle.
Supposedly the Magpies – who remain the only Premier League club yet to make a signing this window – are ‘visibly interested’, without making the move a priority.
An issue could be the player’s large salary.
Jeunes Footeux say Diaz takes home £3.4 million per season.
Mariano, 28, came through the youth ranks at Real, and first played for the first-team in 2016/17.
He then left to join Lyon where he spent one very successful season.
His efforts that term prompted Real to buy him back, but he’s struggled to cut the mustard since returning.
In total, he’s bagged 11 goals in 62 appearances for the Spanish giants.
Mariano would be a gamble
He would be a bit of a risky signing by Newcastle, if there is actually anything in this claim.
The star did do well at Lyon, scoring 21 goals for them in that one season, but he managed just one goal in 22 appearances last term.
The season before that, he also managed just one, and in 2018/19 he managed just four.
There’s no word on how much Real want for him. Presumably, he won’t come too cheap though since he has two years left on his contract.
