Jens Cajuste has spoken of his frustration at not managing to seal an exit from Midtjylland this summer, after being linked with Newcastle United.
The Sweden international was supposedly a target for the Magpies a few weeks before the window closed.
Nothing came of it in the end of course, and Newcastle made no more signings after Joe Willock.
At least to the first-team anyway. Santiago Munoz did arrive on deadline day but will go straight to the U23s.
It seems Cajuste is not entirely happy to be staying put with the Danish side.
He told Fotbollskanalen: “The Premier League would have been fantastic fun.
“I was disappointed and I hoped to take the next step. But I have to accept it and make the best of the situation.
“I felt that I was ready to take the next step. But that’s how it is in football. I have to accept this.”
Cajuste has been with Midtjylland since 2018, and has so far clocked up 69 appearances for his club.
He won the league title in the 2019/20 season.
Cajuste clearly keen to move on
Newcastle will likely be in a position of needing midfield reinforcements come January.
The club should therefore keep tabs on Cajuste to see how things develop.
It seems he wanted a move this summer, and so there’s a good chance he’ll still be wanting to depart in the next window.
Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden have both got less-than-perfect records when it comes to injuries.
So the Magpies really need to get someone in in January – obviously ideally they would have done it before the end of the last window.
