Newcastle United are facing competition for Will Hughes in the form of Aston Villa.

According to the Watford Observer, the Midlands club are monitoring the playmaker, who is said to be ‘uneasy’ about signing a new contract offer from the Hornets.

Watford are keen to tie the 26-year-old down.

At the moment, he is into the final year of his contract at Vicarage Road.

Discussions are continuing between the club and the player’s agent.

It’s explained that Hughes and his representatives are interested in exploring other options that are available.

Newcastle were recently linked with a move for Hughes.

It was claimed by Alan Nixon that the Magpies had asked about him, and then there was a report further to that from The Sun claiming Isaac Hayden could be offered as part of a potential swap deal.

Hughes open to departure

It seems, given the information provided, that Hughes is definitely open to moving on from Watford, as his contract winds down.

Him stalling on signing a new contract puts Watford in a tricky position.

If he ends up agitating for a move, that could force the Hornets to sell for cheaper than they would have liked.

That could be good news for Newcastle, but Aston Villa’s interest is an issue.

Dean Smith’s side are in a good place right now and could well be a lure for Hughes.
