Newcastle United face missing out on South American starlet Alan Velasco.

The club have reportedly been on his tail for a while.

The Magpies are not the only side to hold an interest.

The likes of Monaco, Lyon, Parma and Brighton have all been mentioned too.

El Intransigente claimed back in January that Newcastle wanted Velasco, who has been tipped to become ‘the next Sergio Aguero’.

But the youngster has been speaking about his immediate future, and has dealt a blow to Newcastle, signalling his intention to stay at Club Atlético Independiente.

He told Argentinian outlet Paladarrojo: “Today I don’t think about leaving the club. I do not forget everything that Independiente gave to my family, at times they even fed us.

“My dream is to play in Europe, I think I can get there. That is not why I am going to go to the first offer that comes, I want to give back to the club everything they gave me.”

Time for Newcastle to look elsewhere

Clearly Velasco isn’t looking to move on at the moment.

The starlet is to be respected for his show of loyalty. It seems Club Atlético Independiente have done a lot for him so far and the relationship between player and club is very good.

A move right now probably wouldn’t be worth Newcastle’s time anyway.

Velasco – who supposedly has a £14 million release clause (via Sussex Live) – has a lot of potential, but last term he only scored one goal and made two assists in 17 appearances.

That suggests the 18-year-old still has plenty of developing to do.
