Newcastle United are said to be holding an interest in signing Independiente youngster Alan Velasco.
El Intransigente are reporting that the 18-year-old is attracting attention from foreign sides, including Parma and Club America as well as the Magpies.
Velasco is said to be protected by a £17.5 million release clause, but it is explained the Independiente have been badly affected financially by the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is thought they will need to make some sales to alleviate the pressure, suggesting the talented Velsaco could be going much cheaper than is true value.
Versatile Velasco is said to be one of the most exciting prospects in Argentinian football at the moment, and is already capped by his country at U17 level.
Independiente’s vice-president Pablo Moyano told Soy del Rojo earlier this year that he anticipates Velasco becoming the next Kun Aguero.
Newcastle should test the waters
Independiente’s precarious financial position must surely encourage Newcastle to get into contact over Velasco.
Argentina obviously have a brilliant track record for producing exciting young attackers that go on to become world stars, and Velasco may well be the next big thing.
If there is a suggestion he could be going cheap, then the Magpies have got to be in the mix.
