Newcastle United are interested in signing Sofyan Amrabat according to a new report.
The claim comes from the Daily Mail, who believe that the Magpies have joined the chase to sign the 26-year-old Morocco international.
They believe that a plethora of clubs are interested in the midfielder, with the Daily Mail stating that Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool, West Ham and Atletico Madrid are all keeping an eye on the Fiorentina ace – alongside Newcastle.
It is no surprise that a queue is forming to secure Amrabat’s signature. He played a major part in Morocco’s historic run to the World Cup semi final.
The midfielder was a rock in front of the defence, helping his nation reach the final four where they lost to France on Wednesday night. But Morocco made history, becoming the first Arab and African team to reach the semi finals of a World Cup.

A lot of their players are now being linked with major moves, which is customary after a major tournament.
Newcastle are reportedly looking at Amrabat, as Eddie Howe searches for a midfielder. And a move for Morocco’s number four would certainly get Alan Shearer’s seal of approval.
Alan Shearer is a big fan of Sofyan Amrabat amid Newcastle interest
Amrabat has been receiving rave reviews for his performances in Qatar. Pretty much every pundit has had their say on the Netherlands-born midfielder.
He has received praise from far and wide. His agent believes he is the best holding midfielder at the World Cup, while French president Emmanuel Macron also thinks he is one of the best performers of the tournament.
From a Newcastle perspective, Amrabat has also impressed the Magpies’ all-time leading goalscorer.
Before the World Cup semi final clash between Morocco and France, Shearer told BBC Match Of The Day that Amrabat has been ‘absolutely magnificent’ in Qatar.
He then lived up to the hype with another great performance, including an amazing challenge on Kylian Mbappe that went viral. Amrabat chased the rapid Frenchman from his own half and was clever enough to get himself in a position where he could make a challenge, winning the ball with a crunching tackle.
It was a thing of beauty. A piece of art. Glorious.
The way Amrabat dispossessed Mbappe summed up his tournament. He is an enforcer in front of the defence, making tackle after tackle after tackle.
That is something Newcastle are after, as they search for someone to play in the ‘number six’ role. Bruno Guimaraes currently plays there, but would be better used further up the pitch.
Signing someone like Amrabat would certainly facilitate that change.
