Report: Newcastle now eyeing £39m World Cup star, Mourinho says he’s ‘absolutely incredible’

Newcastle United are interested in Morocco World Cup star Azzedine Ounahi, according to 90min.

The 22-year-old has seriously impressed whilst out in Qatar, and the Magpies are said to be keeping their eye on the Angers midfielder.

However, from the Premier League, the likes of Southampton, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all said to be keen on the youngster.

Outside of England, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain have all been scouting the player.

Furthermore, according to L’Equipe, Leicester City are also interested in signing Ounahi – with a deal worth £39m now being touted.

Newcastle now eyeing Ounahi

The youngster has played 14 matches in Ligue 1 this season, having operated as an attacking midfielder, on the right flank, and as a no.6.

Despite his talents, Angers sit bottom of the table – causing severe worries of a possible relegation.

Luckily for the player, Ounahi has been fantastic at the World Cup. Extremely impressive for a 22-year-old, he has started every single match for Morocco. Helping his side through to the semi-finals, the youngster is set to start against France this evening.

Jose Mourinho has lauded the midfielder for his performance in the quarter-final against Portugal, having claimed: “Their No.8, the young boy that plays in France in Angers, Ounahi, was absolutely incredible”.

Having shone on the world stage out in Qatar, it is sure to be a tough battle to win the race to the Moroccan’s signature.
