Newcastle United are facing big competition to sign Benoit Badiashile this summer.

The club attempted to sign the young Frenchman during the January transfer window, and reportedly tabled a bid of £33 million.

Ultimately, the Magpies were unsuccessful in their pursuit of the 20-year-old.

He remained with Monaco, who are trying to secure Champions League football for next season. They are currently languishing in eighth place in Ligue 1.

Badiashile, who is currently nursing an injury, is a highly coveted player.

He has a strong reputation over in France, a nation that has produced some absolutely cracking young centre-halves in recent times.

He will likely be the subject of a lot of attention this summer.

The Sun have reported Manchester United are looking to add Badiashile to their squad. Supposedly, it will take an offer of at least £40 million to sign him.

The Red Devils offered £22 million for him back in 2020.

Newcastle could also face competition from West Ham United, who approached Badiashile in January.

The Irons are currently in the hunt to finish fourth. Securing Champions League football would significantly boost their chances of signing him.

While Newcastle won’t have any issues with the finances involved, the club may find it hard going up against Manchester United and West Ham.

If one of those clubs finishes in the top four then that may be a big lure for Badiashile.

That said, the Newcastle project will greatly appeal to many players in the summer.

It will be a busy summer in terms of recruitment. With time on the club’s side this time, the squad could be looking very tasty indeed ahead of 2022/23.

This, of course, if Newcastle retain their Premier League status in May.

Failure to do that would be a massive disappointment, and make it impossible to sign players like Badiashile.
