Newcastle United are reportedly keen on a potential deal to bring Youri Tielemans to St. James’ Park.

The Leicester City midfielder is continuing to rebuff the Foxes’ attempts to tie him down to a new contract.

The maestro has less than 18 months left on his current deal at the King Power Stadium.

If he isn’t going to extend, then Leicester officials undoubtedly have to consider selling him this summer.

According to 90min, Newcastle are one of a few teams taking a look at the situation.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham United are all in the hunt for the Belgium international.

The report claims Tielemans is just not ready to commit his long-term future to the club. It is also stated that the club could ask for £40 million.

Newcastle were actually linked with Tielemans back in October, shortly after the completion of the takeover.

The Daily Mail had reported he would be the kind of calibre of player PIF would look to bring to the club.

Tielemans has been with Leicester since January 2019, when he joined on an initial loan deal from AS Monaco. He instantly impressed, and was snapped up permanently in the following summer window.

So far, he has clocked up 135 appearances for the club, and will forever be a part of Leicester folklore after scoring that amazing winning goal against Chelsea in the 2021 FA Cup final.

Back in December, Tielemans produced a fantastic performance for Leicester in their 4-0 win over Newcastle. He scored twice that day.

Newcastle should definitely keep a close eye on Youri Tielemans

He hasn’t been having a particularly good season by his high standards. But a number of Leicester players have struggled this season, and the Foxes look set for a pretty underwhelming final placement in the table.

Tielemans, on his day, is a fine midfielder who has a brilliant all-round game.

It is very possible he will agitate for an exit this summer, and Newcastle should look to get involved.

He obviously has a good amount of experience in the Premier League and is used to playing in a three-man midfield.

Maybe he’d be open to becoming a part of the Newcastle project.

The Foxes would do well to get £40 million for him. That said, it would not be out of the question if enough teams want to sign him.
