Newcastle United are reportedly one of a host of clubs tracking talented CF Montreal midfielder Djordje Mihailovic.

The claim comes from Jeunes Footeux, who say as many as 11 teams are currently on the ace’s tail. Three of those are French; Nice, and two other unnamed clubs.

And from the Premier League, Newcastle, Leeds United and Everton are all credited with interest.

Milahilovic, 23, is reported to be one of the great hopes for American football.

He enjoyed quite a productive season last term, scoring four goals and made 14 assists, suggesting him as a real creative spark.

Montreal apparently want at least £6.7 million for the player.

So far, he has clocked up 38 appearances in total for Montreal, having been there since December 2020 when he transferred from Chicago Fire.

The mention of Leeds is quite interesting.

The Whites, of course, have just parted company with Marcelo Bielsa. The man to replace him is American Jesse Marsch.

It is quite possible that they could be Newcastle’s biggest rivals for USMNT international Mihailovic.

Newcastle moving for Djordje Mihailovic would be very interesting

Mihailovic is clearly a talented player to have all these clubs chasing him.

It is interesting to see Newcastle mentioned as a possible suitor.

He has only ever been in the MLS, and the Premier League is a serious step up in quality.

Newcastle, of course, did business with an MLS club, Atlanta United, few years ago to bring Miguel Almiron to St. James’ Park.

The Paraguay international has shown glimpses of his quality but has often struggled in the English top-flight. His record of 13 goals and five assists in 115 Magpies appearances is certainly underwhelming.

Given Newcastle’s new financial might, it would be somewhat surprise to see a player like Mihailovic being targeted.
