Newcastle transfer news: Toon could revisit Diaby deal in future windows

Newcastle United are seriously struggling to complete a deal to sign Moussa Diaby this summer.

The Bayer Leverkusen winger is our top forward target, as Eddie Howe looks to boost our attacking options.

Diaby would be a sensational signing, and another game-changing addition to the Newcastle squad. However, finances mean this deal remains a long way away. A move to St James’ Park during this transfer window now feels incredibly unlikely.

The Telegraph claim that Leverkusen want £60million for the 23-year-old, while his wages would also be a stumbling block. They add that he would likely want to become the club’s top earner, exceeding the £110,000-a-week that Kieran Trippier receives.

All this means that Diaby to Newcastle is probably not going to happen this summer. However, it doesn’t mean that it will never happen.

Newcastle could go back in for Moussa Diaby and revisit deal

According to i News, the Magpies’ interest in Diaby isn’t necessarily over. They report that Newcastle could revisit the winger in future transfer windows.

This is similar to what happened with Sven Botman. The Toon owners tried to sign him in January and failed, but revisited the deal this summer and got their man.

Given Diaby’s ‘astonishing‘ ability, that is certainly a wise decision. He is a top class footballer, and someone who could become a talisman in a Toon shirt.

The landscape surrounding Newcastle and even the player will change in the coming months and years. Therefore, a fresh attempt to land Diaby in the future would be wise.

Leverkusen have no need to sell right now, having qualified for this season’s Champions League. However, that might not be the case for next season.

Diaby’s contract will also be a year closer to expiring then, giving the German side less power to command such a high fee.

The World Cup is on the horizon too, which Diaby will hope to be involved in. A move could potentially jeopardise his place in the France squad, but that would be less of an issue in future transfer windows.

On top of that, Newcastle might soon be in a position to spend more money. New sponsors will increase club revenue, while a surge up the Premier League table could also increase our transfer kitty.

He’s on 23-years-old, and still has a long way to go in his career. Diaby would be a stunning signing right now, but would be just as impressive in January, next summer or even beyond.
