Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for Sasa Kalajdzic this summer.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who state that the Stuttgart striker is a possible target for the Magpies before the transfer window closes.
Eddie Howe is still looking to add an extra striker to his squad, and are being linked with Joao Pedro and Goncalo Ramos.
Now Kalajdzic could be in the mix, and he’s a player Newcastle have been linked with before.
Newcastle wanted Sasa Kalajdzic last summer
Rewind to March of 2021, and Kalajdzic was a Toon target then too. That was when the Magpies were managed by Steve Bruce, and barely had any money to spend thanks to Mike Ashley’s ownership.
Heading into the summer, Newcastle were being linked with plenty of players as usual, one of which Kalajdzic. TuttoJuve claimed that the Magpies and Everton were keen.
As we reached the summer, more and more teams became interested in the Austrian. And it then became clear that he wouldn’t be coming to St James’ Park.
The Athletic stated that while Newcastle were watching the 6ft 6in striker, they could not afford him. But will that be the case this summer?
Newcastle need a striker
With just over two weeks remaining in the transfer window, Newcastle need to sign a striker. Howe needs an extra option up top just in case Callum Wilson suffers another long-term injury.
The Magpies have seen plenty of targets come and go this summer, and now they are considering someone who was a target during the Ashley era.
The 25-year-old is certainly a talented player, and has started the new Bundesliga season by providing three assists in the first two games.
He sadly spent most of last year injured, but did still manage to score six goals in 15 league appearances for Stuttgart. Kalajdzic also got two assists, so eight goal contributions in 15 games is actually a pretty strong contribution.
The Austria international’s contract situation certainly makes him appealing. His current deal at Stuttgart expires next summer and he is reportedly available for £20million.
At the moment, Kalajdzic sounds like a potential option for Newcastle. However, he might shoot to the top of our list of transfer targets if we continue to struggle for signings.
