Newcastle United have blocked a loan move to Bournemouth for Freddie Woodman.
According to the Chronicle, the 24-year-old had been set to join the Cherries for the 2021/22 season.
He’d even had a medical apparently, and was set to join their pre-season in Marbella.
But Toon star Martin Dubravka is now facing some time on the sidelines, after picking up a foot injury.
It is explained the £38,000-a-week Slovakia international (Spotrac) could need surgery. He is supposedly seeing a consultant about the issue.
It is now currently unclear whether he will be fit for the start of the new season.
Woodman had not been included in Newcastle’s current training camp in York.
It has been reported that Woodman was not in manager Steve Bruce’s plans for 2021/22.
But the Dubravka situation could now change Bruce’s stance.
The Chronicle add that Woodman could now play a part against York City.
Bournemouth loan move wouldn’t have made sense
That Woodman was close to joining Bournemouth is somewhat strange.
If Bruce doesn’t intend to make him the number one at St. James’ Park for 2021/22, then he should be loaned to another Premier League club or sold on.
He’s had two terms in the Championship and is arguably ready to make the step up. He wants to be a number one.
At least, according to the Chronicle, Bruce will now look at Woodman in pre-season, something that should have happened anyway.
