Fofana has been a real driving force for Lens, who currently sit sixth in Ligue 1.

They’re performing way above expectation, and Fofana – who is captain of the club – has seriously impressed.

It remains to be see whether Lens can mount a genuine challenge for European football.

If they are to remain in the hunt until the end though, the form of Fofana will be absolutely key.

No matter where Lens finish at the end of the season, it’s likely Fofana will be the subject of interest for a lot of clubs across Europe.

Recently, Newcastle were linked with a move for the 26-year-old dynamo.

Le10 Sport reported that the Magpies would not hesitate to swoop this summer, which is an exciting claim.

Now, Fofana’s agent Antony Mendez has been speaking about his client’s future.

He has insisted Fofana has a contract with Lens and is happy. However, he also stated he has ‘no doubt’ Fofana could play for a Champions League club.

He told Foot Mercato: “Seko is under contract with RC Lens until June 2024, there are solicitations, but also the requirements of his club.

“If Seko has to go to a French club programmed for European competitions or to a big foreign club, it will happen naturally, it is the logical next step. He is ambitious. But he can also choose to extend the lensoise adventure, because he feels good, he is happy and fulfilled.

“When you watch the games, it’s obvious (he can play in the Champions League).”

Mendez goes on to really praise his client, hailing his ‘extraordinary athletic ability’, leadership and and ability to speak several foreign languages, including English.

Newcastle will do extremely well to sign Seko Fofana this summer

Even though he is happy at Lens, realistically it would be a real surprise if he stayed there beyond the summer.

It’s probable some big offers will come in for him, and his agent does describe him as being ‘ambitious’.

It might be difficult for Newcastle land Fofana this summer.

There wouldn’t be any issues for Newcastle in terms of making a big transfer offer and wage package offer.

But it just might be that Fofana would be more keen to play for a club currently in the Champions League to match his quality.

If Newcastle can pull off a deal though it would be an amazing coup.
