Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

According to The Sun, the Magpies are looking to land the Spaniard this summer, and have been making checks on him.

Eddie Howe is looking to bring in a new stopper, with a number of names having been linked in recent weeks.

Bernd Leno, Dean Henderson and Kepa Arrizabalaga have all been mentioned.

But now Sanchez is on the club’s radar, and Newcastle are said to be lining up a £20 million offer.

Newcastle and Brighton, of course, have already done business this season with the transfer of Dan Burn to St. James’ Park.

And Dan Ashworth recently left the Amex Stadium and is set to become Newcastle’s new technical director.

It’s possible he could end up playing a significant role in any deal.

Sanchez has developed into a very capable Premier League goalkeeper since making his Seagulls debut back in November 2020.

He has gone on to rack up 57 appearances so far, keeping 18 clean sheets.

Some Toon fans will remember that he got sent off against Newcastle earlier this season for fouling Callum Wilson who was through on goal.

That was a something of a rare error from Sanchez, who tends to be solid between the sticks.

Robert Sanchez would be an exciting addition by Newcastle

Newcastle potentially having interest in Sanchez is quite exciting.

Barring the odd moment, Sanchez has really impressed since coming onto the scene for Brighton.

He seems to be a goalkeeper who can do it all.

Graham Potter recently said of the 24-year-old (via Sky Sports): “He’s got huge potential. The challenge for him is to be playing in the Premier League and deal with what that throws at you, which he has done really well so far.

“He’s got amazing ability and, as a young man, he wants to learn, he wants to improve. He’s ambitious and he wants to help the team, so we just need to carry on helping him.”

He also said that Sanchez can be anything he wants in the game.

They clearly rate him very highly down at the Amex Stadium.

He would potentially be a really solid addition for Newcastle and obviously a good long-term option.
