Reported Newcastle United target Nico Schlotterbeck has commented on his future, stating he thinks it’s ‘very likely’ that he’ll complete a transfer away from Freiburg this summer.
The German defender was speaking before making his debut for his country against Israel at the weekend.

Schlotterbeck actually gave away a late penalty in the game.
But his blushes were spared by Kevin Trapp, who saved the spot-kick from Yonatan Cohen.
Despite that blunder, Hansi Flick said that he was pleased with his performance.

It was a rare error from the 22-year-old, who has really excelled this term for Freiburg.
His contributions have helped the club to make an unlikely push for a Champions League place, and his performances have naturally led to speculation about a potential departure this summer.
And Schlotterbeck certainly believes that’s something that could happen.

He told SPORT1: “I don’t rule out staying at Freiburg. I signed for a long time and still have a contract until 2023.
“Of course, there is a possibility that I will leave in the summer. A transfer is very likely, but nothing has been decided yet.
“We will sit down together after the season. Freiburg has a point of view and I have mine. If I feel that I can still develop at Freiburg, then I’ll stay.”
Newcastle were linked with a move for Schlotterbeck, with 90min reporting he actually rejected the club’s approach.
Supposedly, the Magpies were willing to pay over £40 million.
Schlotterbeck sees future away from Freiburg, and Newcastle should see if his stance has changed
So it sounds as though Schlotterbeck sees his future away from Freiburg this summer.
That should encourage Newcastle to come calling again, after they were knocked back before.
Players can have change of hearts, especially ahead of new seasons.

The ball-playing star would be a brilliant addition for the Magpies.
If he’d be keen on becoming a part of an exciting new era, then Newcastle should not think twice about putting in a bid for a player with huge potential.
