Newcastle United have reportedly seen an approach for Freiburg star Nico Schlotterbeck rejected.
90min report today that the Magpies have been knocked back by the central defender, as well as Lucas Digne of Everton.

Apparently, Schlotterbeck and Digne are both unconvinced by a move to St. James’ Park at this moment in time.
Newcastle are working overtime to try and strengthen their squad.
The Magpies are under serious threat of relegation and need several new additions of quality to give a better chance of staying in the division.
The defence is in particular need of new recruits, and it seems today will bring about the first new addition in Kieran Trippier, who has undergone a medical ahead his transfer from Atletico Madrid.
The likes of Sven Botman, Mattias Ginter, Dan-Axel Zagadou and James Tarkowski continue to be linked.

Newcastle are also keen on Schlotterbeck, but it seems the interest is not really reciprocated right now.
90min say Newcastle made an approach and were willing to pay more than £40 million. Freiburg were open to the approach, but he 22-year-old has said no for now.
Schlotterbeck is one of the top prospects in German football right now.
Bundesliga.com recently ran a feature on him, and likened him to Mats Hummels style-wise. That’s because of his presence in both boxes.
Nico Schlotterbeck would be a top addition for Newcastle, but it looks unlikely
This is unfortunate for Newcastle, as Schlotterbeck is a player with huge potential.
The idea he plays a bit like Mats Hummels means he is bound to become a top player. Hummels is obviously no longer in his prime, but he used to be one of German football’s very best central defenders.

It is a shame that Schlotterbeck doesn’t fancy the move right now.
He’ll have his reasons for not wanting to rush into a move just at the moment.
But Newcastle mustn’t dwell, and focus their attention on players who would be open to joining.
