Newcastle United have been linked with a January swoop for Montpellier striker Stephy Mavididi.
This season he has 6 goals so far in Ligue 1 and he netted nine last season, a total he is clearly on course to surpass this time around.
Both Crystal Palace and Brighton are also interested, according to The Daily Mail, and the Express have now reported his asking price.
They say that the French outfit want £20 million to let the striker go before the end of the current window.
Such a swoop would see Newcastle add another striker to their ranks after bringing in the experience of Chris Wood already.
Stephy’s brother, Shaun Mavididi, is currently in Newcastle’s academy at under 18 level.
That is also referenced in the Express’ report and could be something which offers Newcastle the advantage in the chase if they stump up the cash.
Stephy was born in Derby and joined Arsenal’s academy at the age of 13, before departing to join Juventus in 2018.
He has said previously that he would like another crack at English football and what bigger challenge than the pressure cooker of the relegation battle at a club with huge potential if they can survive this season.
Mavididi is rapid and versatile, capable of playing anywhere across the front three, and would give Newcastle’s attack a new dimension, possibly taking some pressure off Allan Saint-Maximin as well as Wood.
