Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar is set to be on the move when the summer transfer window opens, but not to Newcastle United.
That is despite interest from the Magpies ahead of the 27-year-old’s contract at the San Siro expiring.
The Slovakia international is set to become a free agent in the summer, leading to multiple clubs trying to secure his signature. It looks as if Paris Saint-Germain have won the race, with L’Equipe reporting last month that he had agreed a move to the Ligue 1 champions.
Skriniar will now join an elite group of players in Paris in the summer, as he prepares to end his six-year association with Inter Milan.
PSG are signing a top class defender – someone who has been described as ‘amazing‘ by Newcastle player Martin Dubravka, who is his international teammate.

The French side will hope that he will boost their chances of winning the Champions League. He is an elite defender, and someone who Newcastle were linked with.
Newcastle did try to sign Milan Skriniar last month
It had previously been reported that the Magpies were expected to make an offer for Skriniar in an attempt to bring him to St James’ Park. And a report in Italy believes that was indeed the case last month.
According to Inter Live, Newcastle approached Skriniar via an intermediary about joining Eddie Howe’s side. However, the move came too late in the day, with his agent putting an immediate end to discussions with the Magpies.
Considering we have the best defence in the Premier League right now, it is interesting to read a report that stated we tried to bring in another centre-back – albeit for next season.
Howe has two brilliant central defenders right now, with Fabian Schar and Sven Botman performing at an incredibly high level.
There is no need to replace either of them right now, although Schar’s age will make Newcastle aware that they will need someone to take his place in the coming years. The Swiss enforcer is 31-years-old.
But that will not be Skriniar, who is going to sign for PSG despite Newcastle’s best efforts.
