Reported Newcastle United target Anthony Martial wants a transfer away from Manchester United.
That’s according to his agent, who told Sky Sports on Friday that his client wants to leave Old Trafford in January.
The Frenchman has barely featured this season for the Red Devils, making just 10 appearances in all competitions. He’s started twice in the Premier League, scoring his one and only goal of the season in a 1-1 draw with Everton.
Martial is yet to feature under new manager Ralf Rangnick due to injury, but his agent has made his future intentions clear.
“Anthony wishes to leave the club in January,” Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley told Sky Sports.
“He just needs to play. He doesn’t want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon.”
So could this news present an opportunity to Newcastle?

Following the takeover, the Mirror claimed that Martial was one of four Manchester United players wanted by PIF at Newcastle. The other three were Jesse Lingard, Donny van de Beek and Eric Bailly.
There has been limited speculation about Martial, although that may change following comments from his agent.
Former Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba recently spoke about the possibility of the 26-year-old signing for the Magpies.
First things first, he’s an exceptional footballer. He’s been with Man United since 2015, and has hit double figures in four out of his seven seasons with the club.
He’s a big name too, which will likely appeal to the new owners. They’ll want high profile players to attract even more high profile players.
However, up front perhaps shouldn’t be our priority in January. Defence and midfield are our most pressing areas of concern.
We do need cover for Callum Wilson, but Martial surely isn’t going to settle for that role. And does he fit the profile of an Eddie Howe forward? I’m really not sure.
While he’s a great player with a big reputation, I’m not sure a move would be wise in January.
