Anthony Gordon‘s agent has reportedly told Everton that he wants to leave the club amid interest from Newcastle United.

That is according to the Chronicle, who state that the 21-year-old has not handed in a transfer request at this moment in time. However, he has made it clear, via his representatives, that he no longer wants to be at Goodison Park.

Newcastle are looking to sign the winger before the transfer window closes next week, with Eddie Howe keen to bring in a forward after Chris Wood’s departure.

Gordon is the Magpies’ top target, with Dan Ashworth a big fan of the youngster. The Toon hierarchy have decided that he is the man they want, and are now trying to do a deal with the Toffees.

However, that is not proving to be easy. The main issue is the price, with Everton wanting more than what Newcastle are willing to pay. The Chronicle claim that the Toon want a deal worth around £40million, while it has been stated that Everton value Gordon at £60million.

Hopefully a compromise can be reached, and perhaps Gordon’s message to his current employers can help force through a move.

Agent claim could force through Anthony Gordon’s move to Newcastle

While no transfer request has been submitted, Gordon has made it clear that he wants to leave Everton. It has been reported that he is interested in a move to St James’ Park, and that he is a fan of what Eddie Howe is doing on Tyneside.

Everton now know where they stand, and that should make up their mind over the local lad’s future. He doesn’t want to be there, so they might as well cash in now while the money is on the table.

The Toffees are always going to want more, especially when Chelsea were prepared to pay £60million in the summer. But there is no way they are getting that amount now. He is not worth it, and never was.

There are real problems at Goodison Park right now, both on and off the pitch. Focussing on matters on the pitch, they clearly need reinforcements to boost their survival bid. But to do that they need a cash injection.

Newcastle are willing to provide that, as they look to sign a player who no longer wants to be there.

It should be a no-brainer for Everton. Gordon is not thriving in a blue shirt at the moment, and selling him could actually improve their survival aspirations. They could let him go and use the money to get two more players in.

But they need to move soon. The sooner they sell Gordon, the sooner they can reinvest the money.

Newcastle’s stance is clear. They want Gordon, but are not going to overspend. His stance is clear too, and he wants out. Now it is up to Everton to get a suitable deal that suits their needs.

Hopefully common sense prevails in this transfer tussle.
