Newcastle tipped to be the ‘most logical club’ to sign 33-year-old Premier League winner who wants out

Newcastle United have been controversially tipped as the ideal club for one former Premier League winner as he looks for a new club in January.

Jordan Henderson only joined Al Ettifaq in the summer after claiming he was heading there to help change the culture in Saudi Arabia, but now he’s looking for a move back to England.

A new report from The Athletic has now suggested that a transfer to Newcastle would make the most sense for the 33-year-old despite him being a former Sunderland player and a boyhood fan of the club.

Newcastle told Henderson would be an ideal transfer

Newcastle are currently having a bit of a midfield crisis with Sandro Tonali suspended until August, Joe Willock has been injured for the majority of the season and now Joelinton has picked up a fresh knock against Sunderland.

The club have so far set their sights on bringing in Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips to temporarily fill the void, though that move is still up in the air with Newcastle seemingly unwilling to pay the loan fee.

As a possible alternative, Henderson’s name has been suggested as the former Premier League and Champions League winner looks for his next club in a quick return to England.

While the profile of Henderson may suit the kind of player Newcastle are on the lookout for, his loyalty to Sunderland just makes this move practically impossible for both parties to complete.

Henderson is already desperate to leave Saudi Arabia

With his time at Liverpool coming to an end, Henderson had a big decision to make, but it wasn’t as if he was going to be short of potential clubs having proven to be a top player for so many years.

What was unexpected, however, was seeing him join Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia, though now things have took a huge downwards turn and the England international wants out at the earliest opportunity.

Few Newcastle fans, if any at all, are going to be big advocates for this move so it’s almost definitely not going to happen any time soon, but we could still see him return to St James’ Park as the 33-year-old looks for a new English team this month.
