Newcastle United are long-term admirers of Conor Gallagher, but it once again looks like the midfielder will not be making the move from Stamford Bridge to St James’ Park.

The 23-year-old has been a loan target for Newcastle in the past, and has continued to be linked with a transfer during the club’s rise under Eddie Howe.

Gallagher appears to be on Newcastle’s radar heading into the summer transfer window, with the club keen to sign two new centre midfielders ahead of next season.

However, the early signs indicate that Gallagher will not be one of them.

Newcastle think Conor Gallagher is worth £25million

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea value Gallagher at £50million. However, Newcastle believe he is only worth half that amount.

With Howe’s side only willing to pay £25million for the England international, it appears that a deal is unlikely. However, the report does add that he remains a player of interest due to the belief that he could seriously improve under Howe’s guidance.

Gallagher has previously been described as ‘perfect‘ for Newcastle, and while that might be the case, there is no way he is worth £50million. He has done nothing in a Chelsea shirt to prove that, with the youngster receiving limited opportunities in West London.

He certainly has the potential to do well in this Newcastle team, and would surely get better under Howe’s management, but £50million is ludicrous.

English players always cost more, but that is over the top. You could argue that Newcastle are undervaluing him, so his true value is probably somewhere in the middle.

However, the Daily Mail state that Newcastle prefer other midfielders, so it does not look like Gallagher will be on his way to Tyneside.

But the longer the transfer window goes without Newcastle signing a midfielder and Gallagher’s future being unresolved, the more he will likely be linked with the Magpies.
