Newcastle United have been credited with a transfer interest in Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Florian Wirtz.
The Magpies have been scouting the German who has a very bright future ahead of him.
That said, he has suffered an injury setback and could be out until the end of the year, so a summer move looks off the cards; not just to Newcastle but anywhere.

And Goal have affirmed Wirtz’s status within the world of football, naming him the second-hottest prospect in world football.
The list contains only players who were born on or after January 1, 2003 from all around the world and there were 50 on there.
Wirtz only lost out to England midfielder Jude Bellingham, who is shining in big European games even as a teenager, and could be a Three Lions mainstay for at least the next decade.

There are two strands of Newcastle’s transfer strategy at play since the takeover.
In January, Premier League relegation was a real prospect and the club needed established, proven players at that level, regardless of their long-term impact or being fashionable names.
But there has to be designs on snapping up some of world football’s best starlets to secure the club’s future as well, and Wirtz might be one for January 2023.
