Reported Newcastle United transfer target Jesse Lingard can apparently leave Manchester United for just £10 million in January.
According to The Sun, the Red Devils are now ready to cash in on the 28-year-old, before he can leave as a free agent next summer.
Lingard could have departed in the summer.
West Ham United were keen to take him back after he shone on loan for them last term.
But the £25 million asking price proved too much.
Now, Manchester United are having to slash their asking price to ensure they at least get a small amount for their academy graduate.
The £10 million asking price is reflective of the fact that Lingard has hardly played this season.
He’s turned out just eight times, for a total of 154 minutes. Five of those have come as a substitute in the Premier League and two have come as a substitute in the Champions League. He has had just one start, ironically against West Ham in the EFL Cup.
Newcastle were linked with Lingard last month, and there is undoubtedly potential for a deal to be done.
It was reported he had representatives present for Newcastle’s game with Tottenham Hotspur.
At £10 million, Newcastle should be all over Lingard
It wouldn’t really matter to Newcastle if he was £20 million.
But the idea Lingard could be going as cheap as £10 million really should prompt the Magpies into action.
It’s peanuts, for a player who is clearly a very capable Premier League player.
He was outstanding at West Ham last summer, and contributed massively to their sixth-placed finish.
Newcastle, in a time of need, must go for players who are proven performers at the highest level. Lingard is someone they should not think twice about.
