Newcastle United youngster Elliot Anderson is set to join Luton Town on loan for the rest of the season.

The Athletic report this morning that Anderson is close to joining the Championship outfit. It will be the first loan move of his career, and one that is perhaps overdue.

Supposedly, Eddie Howe is ready to sanction the move, with Chris Wood on the verge on becoming Newcastle’s second signing of the January window.

Anderson is seen as the brightest young talent at Newcastle by many.

But first-team opportunities have been hard to come by so far.

He made his debut against Arsenal in the FA Cup last season. He then featured against the Gunners in the Premier League.

They remain his only two appearances, with Steve Bruce reluctant to turn to him as the club battled against relegation, and Eddie Howe similarly unwilling to throw him in.

Apparently a host of EFL clubs have expressed interest about Anderson. But it’s Luton who are set to land the 19-year-old.

A deal is ‘in place’, and Anderson looks like he’ll now get the loan move he was probably going to get in the summer.

In the end, Anderson stayed put at Newcastle as he recovered from an injury.

Time for Elliot Anderson to prove himself with Luton loan

It is good to hear that Anderson is finally heading out on loan.

It is clear that he needs to play, and a bright talent like him needs to be experiencing senior football.

Eddie Howe said he was really impressed with him and Joe White recently, and described the pair as ‘very good technical players’.

So he is very much on the manager’s radar.

It is now on him to get out and prove that he is ready to make an impact for the first-team. A stint in the Championship can help him prepare to make the step up.
