Newcastle United are set to make their second signing of the January transfer window in the form of Chris Wood.

According to The Telegraph, the New Zealand is expected to travel up to the club for a medical this evening.

News of Newcastle’s interest in the player only arrived a couple of days ago.

The Telegraph reported previously that the club were ready to intensify their efforts to sign him. They were supposedly hopeful of landing him this week.

And it looks as though that could now happen.

The new report says it is unclear at this stage whether Newcastle have actually triggered any release clause.

But given Burnley are relegation rivals of Newcastle, there is potential for that to be the case.

It seems strange the Clarets would sanction a move for one of their best players to move to a relegation rival.

Interestingly though, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has reported Wood does in actual fact have a release clause. It is thought to be worth around £20 million.

Great news for Newcastle as club close in on Chris Wood

Supporters have been starting to panic a little just recently, given the lack of activity so far.

But it seems as though a move for Wood is now pretty close.

Hopefully, recruitment officials can get a deal all tied up as quickly as possible.

It’s important for Wood to come in and ideally get at least one training session under his belt ahead of the club’s huge game with Watford on Saturday.
