League One side Leyton Orient have just announced the signing of 21-year-old midfielder Ethan Galbraith on a free after he was recently linked with a move to Newcastle United.
In May a report came out from Manchester World saying that Newcastle were looking at bringing in Northern Ireland international Ethan Galbraith when his Manchester United contract expired.
Galbraith had been hailed as having a ‘massive future‘ in the game when he was on loan at Doncaster Rovers but then spent the next season on loan at League Two Salford City.
Something about the Galbraith to Newcastle link just didn’t seem right
It was quite telling that Manchester United hadn’t deemed him good enough to extend his contract despite having that option which is why the links to Newcastle never really added up.
Despite being a Northern Ireland international, he never really looked good enough for the Dan Ashworth revolution, and in fairness, Jamal Lewis gets called up to the Northern Ireland squad and he’s not kicked a competitive ball for Newcastle since people used candles as a primary light source.
Newcastle fans will not be losing much sleep after this announcement
The fact that if he’d signed for Newcastle he’d have been loaned out immediately apparently didn’t suit Galbraith as he wanted his next move to guarantee first-team football which is admirable.
Now Leyton Orient have announced that they’ve picked up Galbraith on a two-year deal ahead of the new season, calling him a ‘domineering midfielder’.
Best of luck to both parties, but I don’t think Newcastle fans will be losing any sleep over this one.
