Newcastle United are being heavily linked with signing Scott McTominay this summer, and now another Manchester United midfielder appears to be on the Magpies’ radar.
Ethan Galbraith’s contract at Man United is set to expire at the end of the season, and a new report states that Newcastle are interested in signing him on a free transfer.
However, a deal for the 21-year-old might be easier said than done.

According to Manchester World, the Red Devils have decided to release Galbraith when his contract expires this summer. That is despite the fact they have the option of extending his deal for another 12 months.
They reportedly do not expect to receive a significant fee for the youngster, which could create a free agent opportunity for the Magpies.
The report adds that Newcastle are interested in signing the Northern Ireland international, and would immediately loan him out if he were to arrive at St James’ Park.
However, that might not suit Galbraith. Manchester World state that he would prefer to join a club where he is guaranteed to play first-team football.
That is unlikely to happen at Newcastle, but is much more probable at Derby County, Stoke City or Sunderland, who have also been linked.
Newcastle eye player with ‘massive future’
Toon officials clearly see something in Galbraith, but it just has not worked out for him at Manchester United.
He joined from Linfield in 2017, and has since made just one senior appearance for the Red Devils. That came in 2019, when he was brought on in the 89th minute for a Europa League game against Astana.
Galbraith has had two loan spells away from Old Trafford. He spent last season in League One with Doncaster Rovers, while he is currently playing for Salford City in League Two.
His loan exploits do not make him sound like a player who would be of any use to Newcastle – especially with the direction we are heading in.
The midfielder was told in 2021 that he has a ‘massive future‘ in the game, but that has not proven to be the case so far. If Newcastle do decide to make a move, they must believe it to be true. As always, in Dan Ashworth we trust.
